Rainbow and Mojo

Rainbow and Mojo, best friends forever

Rainbow and Mojo,  best friends forever, and the bestest of friends that have ever been, the yin to each others yan, the dream real team. Together they were one, one whole one even though they were two, rainbow and mojo made mainjo, mobow, rainjo, rogow. One name out of two.

Rainbow was a dog but unlike any other dog that you will have ever seen with a coat of many colours. Yellow, orange, blue, red and green  with white ears and a black tail and a face of  purple and cream.

Smaller than most dogs, tiny in fact and half the size of the rest  of the pack, bigger than a rat but smaller than most cats but with the biggest and kindest heart of all the pack.

His best friend and only friend that he had ever known was Mojo a cat and a big cat at that already bigger than most cats and Rainbow too and yet still not even fully grown.

Mojo was the same colour from whiskers to tail and paws to back, totally black, jet black in fact but with eyes of emerald green that sparkled brighter than every star in the sky and more sparkly than the sun on a stream.

You may be wondering how it came to be how a dog and cat got to be so friendly as afterall everyone knows this cannot be and this is just the way it's always been, they cannot be friends and that's a fact because a dog is a dog and a cat is a cat and that's just that!

Rainbow was a dog and mojo a cat, they both knew this but failed to understand

why it meant that they could not be friends in this land. Because they were friends and best friends at that, even though rainbow was a dog and mojo a cat!

Rainbow and mojo asked everyone they knew to tell them why    this was true and all anyone could say is that they just knew it was true so it must be true if they knew.

Day after day and night after night they asked and they asked how this could be right and again and again time after time the answer was the same it's the way it's always been so it must be right and don't ask again.

Rainbow a dog and mojo a Cat were friends and best friends at that so

It could not be right or true, this thing that they knew as fact that was right because it was right and must be true because they just knew.

Rainbow and mojo knew it was not true because they knew as they were friends and they knew this was true. Protest and protest and protest and protest again refusing to believe that it was right because it was right and true because it was true and they just knew because they knew

When they knew it was not right and was not true because they were friends best friends at that even though rainbow was a dog and mojo a cat.

Despite being told by all to let it go as afterall curiosity killed the cat and you should just let sleeping dogs lie and everyone knows that, they could not let it be and would not let it go as they needed to know why as somebody must know.

Rufus the leader of the pack, the top dog, the big woof and the wisest of all suggested that they should seek out one wiser than he, the owl who lived in the woods in the tree, the tallest tree of them all .

As soon as the sun came up the very next day, rainbow and mojo set off on their journey  to find the wise owl who lived in the woods in the tree, the tallest tree of them all which was a very long way away.

Hours and hours they walked for miles and miles through meadows, fields, crossing rivers and streams, up hills down hills and through the valleys in between.

Just as the day was nearly done and the moon was about to replace the sun, in the distance they did finally see the start of the wood and its many trees. Although rainbow and mojo were as tired as can be on seeing the wood they were both very happy.

As the dark of night fell upon them and the trees in the wood made the moonlight dim, rainbow felt scared and started to fear the woods they were in but Mojo was not scared of the dark or the wood with many trees and this made Rainbow feel safer and at ease. He trusted mojo would make sure he came to no harm and just the thought of this made him feel warm and calm as mojo was brave and his best friend afterall and not afraid of the dark at all.

Just when Mojo was about to say he thought that they may be lost as luck would have it their paths did cross with a friendly fox who was passing by who kindly told them that to find the owl just follow the twit twoo hoo hoo hoot sound in the air to the tallest tree in the wood and you will find the owl there.

Through the woods they walked covering much ground following following the twit twoo hoo hoo hoot sound but they knew that they were on the right route when louder and louder became the twit twoo hoo hoo hoots.

As the twit twoo hoo hoo hoots started to sound like they were coming from above them directly and from the tallest of the tallest tree rainbow and Mojo knew they were where they needed to be. They had reached the place at last where they could find the owl who was wise enough  to answer the question they ask.

The owl who could turn his head all the way around to see already knew they were there on the ground at the bottom of his tree and because he was wise he knew it was he they came to see but he wondered what a dog and cat would want with he so he shouted down to them from a high what does a dog and a cat want from me and why.

Rainbow and mojo explained to the owl as politely as they could the reason why they had travelled to find him for a day and night to the tallest tree in the wood,  this being to seek his advice to answer a question that could only be answered by one so wise as answer this question, noone else could.

The owl pondered for a moment before he agreed that he would hear the question they needed to ask but only if they would answer one from him first.

At this request rainbow and mojo were surprised as well as concerned that they would fail to answer the question asked from one so wise but the owl sensing their doubt to answer a question asked by he told them the answer he sought had no wrong or right and only what they believed it should be.

Realising that they had nothing to lose Rainbow and mojo agreed to answer any question the owl did choose..

The owl's question was this 'how did a dog and a cat come to be friends, please answer me this!'

Rainbow and mojo went on to explain that they were young when they met and too young to see that they were different in any other way except externally and that it was these differences in their shape and size, colours of their fur that made them feel curious to get to know each other more. As the years went by these differences they could no longer see and instead they saw they were the same and similar in more ways than they were differently.

Once they had finished what they had to say to answer the question set by the owl, the owl asked them what was the question they had for him.

Rainbow and mojo asked the question that they sought the answer to about why it was right and why it was true and why all just knew because they knew and therefore must be true if they knew that a dog and a cat can not be friends as that's how it's always been and that is that.

The owl said only this before he turned and flew away

'Just because something has always been that way, it doesn't make it right or true just because it's all you ever knew as in this case you being friends which is all that you both ever knew makes it right and true for you and if you can be friends as a dog and cat others can too and you have shown that'
