Chalk and Cheese

I look straight ahead knowing all around me, 

everyone, anyone would be better for me;

I wished for love, willing to sacrifice everything else, 

my wish so pure, never thought would destroy myself;

True love was all I ever dreamed of, 

not the poison so addictive I cannot be weaned off;

Yes opposites attract frequently, 

East meets west easily;

But we are north and South,

 too hot, too cold 

and never should be;

Awaking together to the start of a new day, 

the dark feels my heart and the daylight fades away.

 Although we once dreamed of how our day should be,

It's as if we are standing on the international date line in reality: 

with One small step either way,

 we are not even on the same day.

Let's ignore our hearts and walk away, 

listen and let our heads lead the way,

we don't deserve to feel this pain. 

Hearts got it wrong so why listen again.

Facts are facts and it's plain to see

 chalk is chalk and cheese is cheese 

and chalk and cheese is insanity.

We were never meant to love with ease

 and the only way our pain will cease

 is when we finally accept chalk is chalk 

and cannot be with cheese.

Its no secret anymore

 that I wish my life was free from yours.

 Love and happiness is all I sought; 

but heartbreak and hurt is all you ever brought.

The day has come, it's time for the pain to leave;

chalk should be with chalk and cheese with cheese.

No looking back, no regrets, no blame: 

it's the right thing to do but still, it's a shame.

No bad memories will stay with us long or tarnish the good memories of our years;

it wasn't our fault, we just got it wrong to dare hope chalk and cheese could end any other way than in tears
