The blot on the Bulgarian card
As a person who in the main has, without question, been pro Bulgaria and as a mark of this have by choice made it my home after coming and going back and forth for a decade..
there is one thing that I find terribly wrong and it saddens me and has rather discoloured my support and loyalty to the country. The issue being that given the country is heavily reliant on tourism with tourism from foreign visitors currently a huge and well needed source of economic revenue and an area with set forcasts for growth over the next decade to maintain economic stability.. that as a female here alone I find it is extremely disppointing if not morally lacking that the attitude of most I have encountered (inc police and other public sectors is one of discrimination and resentment. Unless of course there is a quick buck to be made from me in an underhand way for doing little then its all smiles while they rob you blind.maybe a little harsh...)
I wanted to believe it was just a misunderstanding in part that i may require support and assistance and the failure to notice was due to the busy ans hectic pace of life... (sarcasm is a low form of witt!I know) but coming from a small town myself that actually does have a busier and hectic way of life, I know that nothing goes unnoticed is not known especially when it comes to someone new living in the town. Especially given the uniqueness of my home and car having English plates...
As it happens i am a fairly
Independent female yet there are certain things that are beyond me such as car mechanics, heating and plumbing and fitting glass and front doors... for nearly two weeks i have been without a secure front door which i believe has been quite a source of gossip for the town tongue waggers (so common knowledge) yet not once has anyone even acknowledged this to me or has one person offered any assistance to even just temporarily secure the door for me....and I sure my cursing as I bash my hands again and again trying to hammer in nails has been heard all the way to varna... the neighbour I asked to spare me two minutes to point out which one of the three watermains was mine so I could switch off the water to stop the leak in my basement certainly was not running late for a VIP meeting when he pointed at his watch and just walked away....these are just a few examples from a catalogue of many..
I am utterly appalled to be honest as I am certain this would not happen in the the UK or many other places.
Lets hope these people dont find themselves or indeed their daughters or sisters etc alone and in need of help desperately in another country where noone is willing to even acknowledge them and choose to look the other way rather than show the slighest bit of human kindness and decency... of course i would have paid so its only themselves and the Bulgarian reputation that will be at a loss ultimately as not only do I see myself moving I doubt I will recommend to anyone to live here or visit if a female alone which in the past i have done nothing but champion its merits and squash the poor image it has in other european countries. Not to mention my lack of motivation to comtinue to raise funds and charitable acts I have been committed to for the good of the less fortunate Bulgarians who are also excluded and isolated from their societies.
Such a shame as the country is beautiful and apart from the small acts of decency by the small minority who have welcomed me on a level, I only wish you were the majority as i know you do and are too ashamed about the current attititudes and the treatment of long term visitors too.
I can not help but think a country like such which is so rich in natural resource and oozes so much potential is suffering due to the sabotage of its own kinsman.
