Peter Doherty; A rhyming tribute

A musician, a poet, a painter, writer and artist;

A controversial character not made to conform in the slightest!

Born to a military family on 12^th March 1979;

Pete Doherty, one of the greatest talents of our time.

Peter, derived from Latin meaning rock or stone,

More of a mountain he is and this he has shown.

Unlucky or hurtful is what Doherty stands for;

A patronymic name, with Gaelic roots at the core.

The 2^nd child born to his family;

Father Peter, mother Jacqueline with sisters Amy Jo and Emily.

At 11 he learned to play guitar;

Just for Emily Baker as a way to impress her.

Even at 16, in poetry he did soar;

Winning a competition and went to Russia on tour.

Creative but also intelligent, Pete has it all;

Passed 11 GCSEs, 7 A graded, from school.

Later adding 4 A levels to that,

Before moving to London to his grandmothers flat.

  

   

His first job at Willesden Cemetery was filling graves in;

But he spent most of his time amongst the gravestones reading and writing.

Then off to Queen Mary college to study English lit;

He completed his first year then that was it!

When he moved into a flat in Bethnal Green;

With Carl Barat, came the birth of the Libertines.

The band exploded but so did Pete's drug vice;

Resulting in him being out of the band twice!

Not all bad for Pete, as these times earned him his own fame;

Libertines loss was Babyshambles gain!

Pete and Carl had many a spat;

Ending in prison for Pete when he broke into Carl's flat.

Judge Roger Davies sentenced Pete to 6 months;

Reduced to 2 by an appeal that turned up trumps!

A year later, joint 1^st on the NME cool list;

Helped to take the sting out of these trysts.

Pete started dating Kate moss early 2005;

An on off relationship of several years but not destined to survive!

Then an altercation with Max Carlish while making Rockumentary;

Got Pete and Alan Wass charged with blackmail and robbery.

  

All charges were dropped later on;

But trouble for Pete was to carry on!

By September 2007, Pete needed to spend 6 weeks in rehab;

A good move, but by November he would relapse.

Winning in Feb 2008, the shockwaves hero of the year award;

Was a move forward for Pete that most did applaud.

But April 2008, saw Pete in prison once more;

After another bout of brushes with the law!

In June 2009, in Gloucester, Pete is arrested yet again;

Charged with driving dangerously while drunk in possession of heroin!

For many years to come, what followed in Pete's life;

More drugs, more arrests and nearly a new wife!

But what stayed consistent through all of these occasions,

Was his unique music, with genius lyrics of amazement!

So to Pete Doherty, all the negatives apart;

Through your creativity, you will always be in our heart!
